2018 Business Excellence Awards
The 2018 Business Excellence Awards again rewarded Zululand Business owners for the work done during the year.
28 November 2018 saw the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosting the prestigious annual Business Excellence Awards with the theme “Pinnacle of Excellence”. The venue was the Dome at the uMfolozi Casino and Convention Resort.
This year’s sponsors were South32 Hillside Aluminium as main sponsor while Tronox and the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone also generously contributed.
The Mayor of the King Cetshwayo district, Councillor Nonhle Mkhulisi delivered the opening address.
Carol Ofori, from East Coast Radio was an inspirational programme director who kept the attendees entertained for the evening. The guest speaker was Sphelele Khomo (CA), Head of Department of Accounting at the University of Zululand (UNIZULU). She was instrumental in the SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) accreditation for a BComm (Accounting Science) degree at UNIZULU.
Ms Khomo reminded the audience of the importance of skills development and challenged business owners to make a difference by ensuring that the people of South Africa are skilled.
Thami Sithole, Port Manager at Transnet National Ports Authority delivered the keynote address. He announced that Transnet will invest R7.5 billion to expand the Port of Richards Bay over the next five years.
Sithole highlighted that government and business plays a critical role in local economic development initiatives. He emphasised that transformation that should go beyond the tick box of a BBBEE scorecard within the organisation in order to make a valuable contribution within the District Municipality..
Following dinner, the programme proceeded to the highlight of the night, which were the awards.
